Cake walk questions

1 Year, 6 Months ago

I am running the harvest hoopla at school and we decided to have a cake walk. I don't know much about them. I have the general idea about how they work. We have people who want to donate cakes, but what should they put their cakes on and how should they be wrapped? I'm sure there is an obvious solution, but I am missing it. Maybe I don't buy enough cakes to know this. Thanks!

We have cake walk during our carnival every year, but two years ago we made a slight change that everyone seems to love. Instead of using donated cakes, we have asked for donations of boxes of Little Debbie style snack cakes. It's SO much easier to carry around a box of snack cakes that your kid wins (or multiple boxes!) than an actual cake (especially if it has icing on it!). If you have a Hostess Discount Store in your area parents can get a lot of boxes to donate fairly cheap! Good luck!

We asked the bakery department at one of our local supermarkets if they could donate cake boxes. Then if a parent wanted to donate a cake we would send them a box. Some brought their cakes the night of the event and we put them in boxes then.

We made a deal with a local grocery store bakery for small decorated cakes. The parents "donate" the cakes by sending in money to pay for them. The grocery delivers the cakes the day of the event and they are all packaged in the plastic cake boxes.
