Ga Mom--you have worked your buttocks off and you should feel incredibly good about it. Just know that those same people will go into ANY atmosphere and act as they do. It is THEM...and their approach to life. Be thankful that you aren't experiencing life from their perspective--trust me,,,it is a terrible place to be.
My "sage" advice--be SO overwhelmingly sweet to them that it drives them nuts....always speak...always smile and let THEM wonder what is going on with you. People will see your leadership and how you handle these folks and be aspired to maintain the high road. The view is so much better when you can look down on folks like that ....

Sometimes people just can't handle the knowledge that someone else may do a better job than they can. They assume they are irreplaceable and resent it deeply when they find out they're not.

It's their problem not yours. Focus on the positive things that occurred at your meeting(it sounds like there were a lot)and ignore their petty behavior.

There are some people have trouble letting go, because they loved what they did so much and want to see the successes continue and others who can't let go just because they are control freak jerks who enjoy making others' lives miserable. Boo to them!

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

The book The Disapperance of Childhood by Neil Postman will tell you where manners went, never to be seen again in our lifetime! I thnk the problems yu describe are endemic in our society.

this is kinda a vent, kinda not.
i've worked my hiney off all summer long on these room parent folders. school started August 3rd and i have tried to meet all room parents and even went up and down the car line in the afternoon talking with folks and trying to meet new people, etc. so far, the 2 events as PTO have more than doubled previous years events.
So I have the room parent orientation last night. Of course the 3 snot heads from previous years PTO were there. They sent there kids 6 times to the table to food, one kids spilled a drink and another parent had to clean it up, and the previous president came in her regular spandex and her husbands shirt (her normal attire, i kid you not). They rolled their eyes at every event we wwent over, and one even said I had diarreha of the mouth!!!!!!!!!! the meeting lasted an hour and they ate, so yes i did talk alot but what the heck did they expect? We picked up 4 parents interested int he 2 available positions and parents were volunteering left and right for all sorts of things. I knew the only reason these witches came was just to see how things went and talk about us. but that was ok cause we had the largest turnout ever for a pto room parent event and every one left feeling excited.
Why do people feel like it is such a competeiton? All I want to dois make things as good as i possible can. i am an overworker, and tend to try to do the best at everything. these people did 700 at a carnival that the previous year had done 3000 and the next year did 4000. not to mention things that were missing including money from the checkbook. they told us they held a bonfire at the pres's house to burn all their notebooks! ARGH!!!!
and i have to be nice because they are parents and are 3 times bigger than me and even in a wild redneck moment i could not woop up on them.
i don't understand why people can't see that it is all for the betterment of all the children not just our own particular kids.
