Sadly I don't have a well established facebook. I only joined because my sister lives across the country (and she made me because she posts pictures there) and now I can keep an eye on my teenage son. They are my only two "friends". I never intended to join facebook, I am involved in way too many other things to try to keep up with it! So now I fear that using my personal account would look phony or pathetic

Facebook: I am using my own personal Facebook. I think this helps to see that I am a legitimate person with a well established Facebook.

How to solicit donations on Facebook:

I have a basic letter that includes all of my information, including Federal tax ID.
I copy and paste this, as needed - changing the business name, and the very last line which is me asking for a very specific item from the business.

I find the business on Facebook.
I send them a private message.
ie: I paste my letter onto the message, and make changes to personalize the letter.

If you do a search on Facebook for your town, it should bring up many businesses that are on FB.
