Green Schools

We are a Green School, so we have no excuse. We are LEED Silver certified... We recycle so much stuff at lunchtime, it would amaze you. The students have an organization called "The Green Team". One idea they came up with was to put boxes in each classroom and workroom to recycle all kinds of paper instead of tossing it away. We also have a newspaper recycle bin located at the school. Should anyone want to drop off magazines and newspapers in the bin, the school get a kickback. They come up with new ideas all the time.

Our school just hosted a Gators Going Green Night. The highlight of the evening was a Fashion Show (or should I say "Trashion Show?) Each class created a unique outfit made completely out of recyclables. Students who modeled the outfits were treated to hair and make-up by a local salon. The stage and cafeteria were transformed into a runway using white Christmas lights and a dj and emcee really got the crowd pumped up. It was an amazing evening. Not only did everyone have a great time, but they all learned important lessons at the education stations provided by local eco-friendly vendors. We now recycle everything possible throughout the school using Fisher Recycling. We're also selling MyEco Bag systems as a great fundraiser and way to help keep plastic grocery bags out of the landfills. One of our teachers is creating an outdoor classroom using only recycled materials and yet another teacher has received a Lowe's grant for a "Gator Garden" where we plan to use composted items from the cafeteria to grow fresh vegetables. Lots of other activities are planned as we gear up for a fabulous Earth Day! You can see a few of the pictures on the PTO Today site under Go Green Group or visit our Facebook page at WIS PTO for videos and media coverage.

Can't seem to log into TerraCycle.net ot TerraCycle.org?
Trex also doesn't show anything that says they still have a recycling program. Anyone have any ideas?

Our elementary school is collecting plastic bags and other recyclables to be turned into composite decking and building materials by TREX. We've also signed up as a "Juice Pouch Brigade" with TerraCycle. In October we plan to hold our first Go Green family night. I'll keep you posted!

Our school holds community electronics events quarterly. Not only does it help us to raise badly needed funds, it also helps our community members and business to safely dispose of electronic waste that would otherwise find it's way into our area landfills.
