An Amazing Race

REX BOHN

10/17/2017

As part of its annual event to welcome incoming students, Barrington (R.I.) Middle School held its own version of The Amazing Race, complete with teams, clues, and prizes. Eighteen teams of four students (and one adult driver) started the race at the school and followed clues to locations that varied from the local volunteer fire station to a historic lace company and a park. Teams were sent to the “clue spots” in waves by color code so all 18 wouldn’t end up at the same location at once. A highlight of the event was riding a mechanical bull, which was a solution to a clue. Each team paid $100 to participate, with nearly all of the proceeds going to the PTO. The winning team was awarded a cash prize, and the second- and third-place teams were given smaller prizes. Clues, and prizes, can be as elaborate or as simple as you choose.
