Should board members get incentives?

I am with dlf on this one. If your doing it to bring out new blood and increase involvement then it is not meant for your board members. Besides as board members there are many other perks we get that the average joe parent doesn't get. I certainly would not want to win the certificate and I would hope my other board members felt the same way.

Hmmm-I agree with the teachers since they are volunteering above and beyond their "duty day"...but I would have to say that I would hesitate to include the board. I think the goal of this is to get folks involved that are not already committed if you will and the board is like a governing body. I'm rolling my eyes at myself as I type this because I can see the other side of the coin too, but for me I would feel much better howling up the fact that unknown mom from classroom 312 won a gift certificate because she stepped out of her comfort zone and volunteered than to say "hey some of that money you raised just went to a board member". You know what I mean? Maybe I'm just too sensitive about the cliquey perseptions that can come from it. d

My opinion would be anyone who helps gets their name into the drawing. If a teacher is giving up an hour of personal time I would say YES they need to be included.

This is my first year as pres and we are trying something new to increase parental involvement. We are asking parents to pledge one hour a year to PTO (similar to 3 for me), and our teacher rep suggested having a gift certificate drawing each quarter for those who participate. So for every hour a person works, their name goes into the drawing.

My question is do you think board members should be eligible for this drawing? I'm not putting my name in, but my other officers might be interested in this--it hasn't come up yet, but I expect that it will. And for that matter, should teachers who volunteer be eligible?
