Should board members get incentives?

I also agree that board members should not get their names put into the drawing. This could also be precieved as being "set up" if their name is drawn and thus less people would volunteer (at least at our school).

Thanks for me was last year my 5th grade son would be out in the hallway with his friends and his FRIENDS would walk by and say "hi mom!". Pretty Cool!!

i agree with dlf and serendipity- the object is to get more people involved. the board members should not be involved in this because your supposed to be there for the smiles and recognition from the kids. once those "new parents" feel that and see that, they usually want to do more. i know i'm not there for a pat on the back, i'm there for the smiles and hearing my kids say to me "that was a great party mom!" or "good thing you were there to fix our hair before pictures." that's my "thank you" i would proudly withdraw from a drawing if that were the case......smiles from kids....priceless!

common sense and ethics dictate that board members ie those designing the certificate program, should NOT be part of the event it just looks really really tacky and lame.

kind of like whem the person who makes up the count the jelly bean contest, that persons child miraculously guesses the correct number and is winner at the school fair. even if fair play, people will smirk and roll eyes, and at the end of the day, those things will HURT parent particiaption, the vrey thing youre trying to better.

kind of like congress deciding on their own salary increase.

Have you walked into your school feeling like you are a part of it...?
Have your children passed you in the hallway smiling at you as they walked past...?
Have they ever said "Mary (so and so) asked if you work here and I said "yes"...
Or perhaps you find that your children (event oncein a while) have the administration smile upon them)...

Common--there is always something WE receive from being there...even if the school has nothing to do with it...we get to hear our kids recognize a "I saw you today in the halls"...and we get to smile quietly and never, EVER, say...

too many kids didn't feel their parents today...

don't you smile..just a bit ...

Hey I must have missed that meeting too!! I have been on the PTO Board for two years now and no one has ever said to me or my other board members THANK YOU. I take care of the school bulletin board and intentionally put up there a little something about NATIONAL PTO DAY but no one did anything for us, but the secretary complained because we didn't do anything for Secretary's Day, we included her in Staff Appreciation, but I guess that was not good enough! What perks do you get that I am missing?

We as board members get perks? I must have missed that meeting lol

Instead of PTO paying for the certs, I bet you could get them donated from someplace, or maybe even make a mini discount card that you can give away. Go to a small handfull of businesses explain what you are doing and see if they would be interested in giving x # of people 5-10% off their meal if they present their 'card'
