We always do a silent auction (more like a chinese auction) at our Spring Fling. The tickets that the students buy are 25cents, or 20cents if they buy them in advance. Then we get the donations for the auction and the children write their names on the back of their tickets and put them into the basket for the iten they want to bid on. All of the items are donated and ranged from clay sets, beta fish, movie tickets, gift certificates, autographed Dixie Chicks picture, to Orioles tickets. We always make tons of money on this and everyone absolutely loves it. HOWEVER - these baskets sound really cool -- might have to try that!!!

Hi All,
I think the theme basket auction is a great idea, but I have never been able to get my organizations to tackle it. Anyway, I know this question has come up before, so for some more theme ideas, you might doing a search on this site for "basket themes". Good luck!

All the ideas so far that you got were great!, But I can only tell you when my school put together thier baskets we asked the parents for money donations so that we did not end up with things that did not match or duplicates. We also had birthday party basket one for a girl and one for a boy. We used a pinata of a barbi and scooby doo as the focal point and matched all the paper goods. The Harry Potter is a great idea now and we used a cawldron to put everything in(You could get that now at the halloween stores).Good luck.

What is a Chinese Auction?
Our school has done silent auctions with class baskets and our two most profitable baskets were Lego and "kitchen or space saving" products. For example, we used a laundry basket and filled it with donated items such as foil, GladWare, zip lock bags, things that people use everyday. And to jazz it up, the space saving products, even TupperWare, was added. We had women "playfuly" fighting over it.

Also, tea and coffee baskets were big.
A night out.
Movie Tickets for 2 or 4, which can be donated by local theaters, popcorn..etc.

I feel like there are no boundaries. Your imagination can be used to create fun baskets.
Good Luck!

It is the almost the same as the silent auction.

We do themed baskets, but we buy chances to win the basket instead of bidding on the baskets.

Our elementary school in our district has many low income families so, we sell chances 3 for $1 or 20 for $5. Then at the end of the evening we have children pick out the tickets for the winner on each basket and gift certificate.

best wishes,
