My children's new school is a charter school and it's all year round. For the Winter break, we had to go along with the local district because we share the same buses. I like the fact that my kids are out until the 8th, but what I didn't like is that they had a whole day in on the 22nd. It was hard with the kids in all day with the Christmas holiday by that Monday. I could have used that day, even half, with my kids at home to ready themselves for the "right-'round-the-corner" holiday.
When I was younger, we were out a full week before Christmas and returned back on the 3rd. I vowed that my kids had a real break and holiday! Even if that had happened, I still would have let my kids stay home until the 8th. Just a little hookey when it's 10* and 4 feet of snow in two weeks.
Our school sounds like it was the same as most. We had a full day on the 22nd and returned on the 2nd. Although the children didn't like it much, us parents did!
Your break was not even 2 weeks! We had half day the 15th and returned Jan 2, so it was a nice break, but we are year round and it is based on number of attendance days for the year. Our year doesn't end til June 27.
Our children began their break at 3:00 pm on Dec. 15! We return on Jan. 2. From a mother's perspective, I would rather have them go until Dec.22 and return on the 8th. It's tough getting ready for the holidays with the kids home!
