School Spirit

We have Spirit Day every Friday at our school. We promoted this during Open House which was also a big help for our Spirit Wear. We have Spirit Day announced every Thursday afternoon where the kids will remember to wear their spirit colors for our school. We don't limit it to our spirit wear though, that wouldn't be fair to those who can't afford spirit wear. So we include anyone who wears red, white or blue shirts. The teachers keep a tally of how many kids have on those colors on Friday and at the end of each month they turn those tally sheets over to the PTA. We sit down and figure out who had the most participation. They get either an ice cream treat or a popcorn party.

Works great and it does two things, promotes school spirit and also increases your spirit wear sales in the end.

We already wear our school colors as our uniform (white shirts/navy blue pants) and so anything to get outta the uniform is HUGE! The most popular and even teachers partake, crazy hair day! One little girl wore white and blue ribbons in her cornrowed haired while one boy had blue hair! To make it more fun our skate party was that night and kids were asked to come as they were! Lots of the pictures taken that day for the yearbook were the ones from the party! Everyone had a blast!!

We used to have School Spirit Fridays. Students were encourage to wear their school shirts or school colors.

Now we have Success Celebrations on Fridays. This is all the principal's doings. Everyone assemblies in the gym. Academic and Attendance prizes are given. The "100 Lady" (she is an aide that helps keep up with class attendance goals, which is posted on the main hall) has a song she sings with them and the principal tells about school wide accomplishments, birthdays are announced etc.

We are an elementary school of approx. 349 students. Our 4th and 5th grade students who are members of student council choose our spirit days (with teacher approval). Some spirit days we have held in the past are: crazy hair day, crazy hat day, red/white/blue day, western day (no cap guns) rainbow day - each grade was given a color to wear, slipper day, and pajama & stuffed animal days. These days are just one day a month and usually held on a Friday. Hope these ideas help. Have fun!

You could borrow something from Catholic Schools Week--they do several different spirit days--

School Spirit Day (school theme)
National Pride Day (red white and blue)
Spirit for God (religious themed day--wouldn't work in public school)
Teacher Appreciation Day
Care for the Earth Day (recycling theme)
Crazy Day (crazy hats and socks)

I don't remember all of them off hand, but there was something different happening each day of the week to celebrate spirit. It reminds students that they are a part of so many great things...and it's fun too!

We are a K-3 School and our colors are red & white. Once a month we have a what is called a red & white assembly. The kids are supposed to wear school colors (most wear their school spiritwear shirts) but any red or white shirt will do. During that assembly they award the student of the month certificates (each class gives one to 2-3 kids, so each kid will get one during the course of the year). The specials teachers also give them out.

We also do kind deed awards where the kids nominate other kids who have done something kind. We have a box in the main entrance & the kids just drop them in. We award them & tell what the kids kind deed was.

The kids really enjoy these assemblies!
