I was concern also about this program. Did you get your ID cards back if so is it really free as advertised?

The scratch cards were in an entirely different envelope, so we probably could have pulled that envelope out and discarded it. I suspect the people who worked on this didn't take a good look at the packages before they sent them out. Given that only 3 were returned, I don't think people would have missed them.

We did not have an assembly; we just sent them home with a cover letter from the PTA President. So far, we've been waiting about 3 weeks for the cards. I'm not sure how long we were told it should take.

Thanks, you guys, for the heads up on the child safety program. Do you HAVE to do the scratch card thing? Is that part of the deal?

How did you handle the program at your school, mum24kids? Did you have an assembly? Were the teachers involved?

How long have you been waiting for the ID cards?

It sure seemed simple enough, but now I'm not so sure...

Well, I think there kind of is a catch. We just did it at our school. Yes, we got one free ID card per student, which was nice. And yes, there really isn't any obligation to purchase anything else. So you can get something for nothing, just like they promise.

But to get the one free card, you fill out an order form which gives you the opportunity to purchase other additional cards at a price I don't remember. The sales pitch read pretty heavy. Plus, there's another envelope with a scratch card for you to be able to donate money to the Vanished Child Association (or something like that--I can't remember the exact name of the organization). It came across as a not very thinly veiled fundraiser, and I found it a turn off. While the Vanished Child group is a registered nonprofit, the percentage of their funds that they spend on administration/fundraising versus programs was way too high for me--I typically do not donate to organizations unless their program spending is at least 80%, unless there's some extenuating circumstance.

We're still waiting for our cards to come back, and I'm not sure how many parents decided to participate in one form or another, and how long it will take, but I'll see if I can find out and post another message.

Hi Patty, Kidz Idz are not free to every school. I only know that they are free to schools that are members of the organizations that they are working with like PTA.

If you need something to show your superintendent or principal (and since you specifically asked for information regarding this, it should be okay to post)

Has anyone out there used the Kidz IDz safety program at their school? Supposedly it's all free and they send out ID cards for each child. I'm having a problem with our superintendent and principal--they believe it's too good to be true. They want to know what the "catch" is on this one. I'd appreciate any feedback on someone who has been there, done that.
