PTO HAS FALLEN APART, PARENTS NO LONGER CARE

Hi,
Yes, Sunny D is right -- there should be something in the bylaws about terms limits. If you have a situation where executive board members are seen throwing votes into the trash, it's time to bring together the parents you refer to -- the ones who want to help and volunteer -- and go to a meeting and challenge the process. Do you have another meeting before the school year ends? Can you raise these issues then? Hang in there. It's obvious you care about the school and the kids.

Look at the Bylaws for your school PTA. Normally there is a limited on how long someone can remain in office. Ours is two years, also as a parent you have the right to contact your district and state PTA Board for assistance. If vote tampering is happening that is a disgrace. They should have a record of who attended the meeting and who voted and for whom. It should be in ballot form and kept on file. Always fall back to your bylaws. If the board wont give it to you or you feel uncomfortable - ask your state PTA for a copy they are required to be on file.

Hope this helps!

The PTO at my child's school is an absolute disgrace. The women who run it have formed a clique and have just about left EVERYONE OUT. They have everyone in their family buy pto cards, so when election time rolls around they are voted back in. I know others who have run against them, and had excellent parental body support, yet they still lose. This we feel is the result of a faulty election process. As they were seen throwing votes into the garbage and adding extras for people who were not even present to vote. The other parents and I are FED UP. There are no fundraisers, and parents no longer join because they know that they will not be asked to volunteer and they will not be able to make a difference. Is there something we can do to disband them?
