This is quite a story. Starting with the election, do have to say that subtracting 4 votes from each candidate is a curious way to try to resolve the question about the unverified ballots. It sounds like you do need to hold an election again, but, before you get that scheduled, check your bylaws to see if there's any language around elections and what to do in these circumstances.

You can certainly appeal to the old president and ask her to not put things in place (unless she is doing things like scheduling fall fundraising, which would have to be done) until the special election is held. This may work.

You'd have more success if the principal would support you. Frankly, when something gets this heated, it really is important for the principal to help if possible -- just to get the two parties to sit down and agree to handle things through the summer in a way that will best serve the school community.

As far as the treasurer with a past, I would say school district rules on volunteers would trump any feelings the group may have. In other words, if the district has rules that do not allow people with criminal records to volunteer, then you need to follow that.

Our PTO is currently a mess. We have a lady who was president the last 2 years. By-laws state she cannot be president past her 2 year term which ended when the school year ended. She has run off all volunteers until the end of her term last month when everyone was ready to start fresh without her.

We had an election in which we now have a new president. However there were 4 votes that were submitted that couldn't be verified and the president was elected by a total of 4 votes more than the other person who ran. The teacher reps decided that they could subtract 4 votes from each candidate but that also meant the winner still won. They were okay with that.
The ex-president is not however. She has stated that the election needs to be redone.

Meanwhile before the election the ex-president made an "anonymous call" about the treasurer elect stating she is a felon. Turns out that the lady that ran and won to fill the treasurer position is in fact a felon based on something she did at 18. Everyone knew and heard about it and she was still elected.

Now the ex-president has issued statements that last years board is still in place because of the election discrepancies and also that the treasurer is a felon and has to be removed from the elected position. The treasurer from last year however no longer has a student at the school. So the ex president has removed her and "appointed" a new treasurer until a new election can take place in the fall.
Also the ex-president has 2 other ladies who "side" with her and they have both been assigned positions by her even though they were not elected.

The principal removed himself from the drama telling PTO to work it out.

The new president has been "removed" by ex-president.
The ex-president is holding meetings over summer with her "appointed" board and not informing general members.
I need advice to somehow get the ex-president to stop her duties when she no longer has them according to by-laws.
I wonder if it is wrong to have a parent with a past criminal record to hold a position; should she be immediately disqualified even though she has held past positions and was elected again and is trusted by all general members & teachers?
