??? about some PTO practices...

Thanks! I am going to talk to the principle and the superintendent if necessary. I just think she is pulling this out of left field. But I will check on the facts. We use the school facitilies after hours for our meetings---we meet in the library. Maybe I am just not getting something here, but how can we get in trouble for using their copier (as long as they are allowing it) when we also use their facitities after hours for meeting and we use their facilities for some of our fundraisers, etc. This is not the first issue I have had with this President. She seems to be one who is going to do things the way she wants to do them regardless of what anyone else thinks or does. I personally think this is wrong and will check into it and stand up to her about it. But thanks for the input.

I would just flat out ask the principal if there is a policy about the PTO not using the copier. If its not a problem, maybe he/she could write up a memo to PTO board to be read at your next meeting. That way the directive comes from the school and she's more likely to listen. If indeed the PTO is not allowed to use the copier, then I would cease the practice of supplying paper to the school, and try to work with your local copy store to maybe get a non-profit discount and a revolving account.
good luck!

??? about some PTO practices... was created by officer&mom
This is my first year as an officer in the PTO at my kids school. I have several issues with some of the practices the President is using. "Jane" has been spending PTO funds (I am the treasurer so I get the bills) to make copies of notes to send home with children when we bought and supply the school with paper so that we may use their copiers to make these notes. She has spent in excess of $100 on copies when the school has always allowed us to use the copiers for nothing and will even make them for us if we get them the notes in advance to allow for them to have time to make the copies. I have questioned the fact that she isspending money elsewhere on copies that I felt was a needless expenditure when we can do it for free. Now she is claiming that she has since learned that we as a PTO can get into trouble for using the school's supplies (electricity and toner I guess since we supply the paper). This makes no sense to me and I have never heard of this and to my knowledge no-one from the school has EVER told her we can't use their equipment. Do we not use their equipment (electricity etc, when we have meetings and fundraisers at the school??). So she is telling me that all note copies have to be made elsewhere and cannot be made at the school. First, I don't believe she has the authority to make that decision on her own and I feel it's a waste of alot of money that we could be giving to the school to benefit the kids. Does anyone know if what she is claiming is accurate (she will not tell me where she supposedly learned that we could not use their equipment). I would appreciate any input on how to deal with this situation. Thank you.
