I'm currently in the process of choosing a program through which to get a master's degree and teaching certification for secondary English. Each program I'm weighing seems to be of good quality, and they all have a student-teaching internship as a part of their curriculum (which is most important to me). I want to base my decision partly on the reputation of the program itself and not that of the school that runs it. As a potential employer, can you provide me any guidance as to which of these programs might catch your eye enough to extend an interview to the applicant? (I understand that there are many, many, many other factors that lend themselves to this decision, outside of which school an applicant attended -- and I'd be glad to hear of those also!)
The four programs I'm choosing among are these:
- M.Ed. in teaching at Peabody College of Education at Vanderbilt University
- M.A. with certification at Graduate School of Education at University of Michigan
- M.Ed. in teaching at Graduate School of Education at Harvard University
- M.Ed. in teaching at Graduate School of Education at University of Pennsylvania
Which program might have the most upstanding reputation in the high-school teaching community?
