Gosh Crystal, killing them with kindness sounds familiar....I am marking Secretary's Day on my calendar and making sure if I can't get to the school the VP will. I did met another new gal that was hired and started Monday, really nice and already knew of me! (didn't know her, but she knew me! scary huh?)

Eight more days everyone!!!!!

I think enough has been said regarding the food server issue...As for the receptionist, A very good friend of mine is a school secretary that took over the job from a lady that was at the school for 20+ years and it was a very rocky first year for her...You wouldn't believe how many times she heard, "Well Mrs. D didn't do it like that..." I have found that if you kill them with kindness you get back ten-fold what you give (yes, even if you have to bite tongue and hold on to your slapping hand to do it)!!! Just remember secrataries day is coming up...this is your chance to start fresh with this women and maybe you can even stroke her ego and tell her that her clothes are so stylish!!! Don't forget to post all the details about your upcoming arrival

I DID have it all in writing the first, second and now third time! The kitchen gal lost (whatever) the first copy so I gave her a second.
Her time has been resovled as she turned in a time card to the school and charged us--the school's bookkeeper caught it and called her on it telling her she can't charge us for her time if her time was approved by her manager. I submitted an itemized list for the menu....you can bet I will cater the Staff BBQ in May myself!

Menzy Mom- I don't work at the school but tired of her "who cares" aditude towards EVERYONE and lack of attention to detail. The former receptionist (she left to be with her children at home) cared about the school and payed attention to details more important than who is dating whom.
This isn't the first fundraiser or task she has messed up for us. Maybe I'm expecting too much from someone clearly qualified to answer the phone....and the school's phone too.

I suggest from now on get everything in writing...As far as not receiving a break down on the bill i would put your request in writing on your organizations letterhead. file one in the organizations records, send one to the head cook, send one to the accts payable dept that you would be paying..

Whether or not you discussed charges with the gal in the kitchen will depend on the bill. What did you get in writing? This isn't my first rodeo. I've had this occur before. She does get paid for her time, unless you have it in writing that she was going to volunteer. I hate to tell you this, but if your food budget wasn't in writing (and I do mean exact prices), you are on the hook for that money as well. Suck it up and learn to get it in writing.

Next... Do you work at the school? In the office? Are you employed by the school there? If not, how the heck is the receptionist your problem?

In the past three months I have about had it with the lack of common sense with the office staff at school.
First of all, I organized a lunch for the teachers and staff during conferences with the gal in the kitchen (head cook I suppose). I asked for a quote in Jan. and she knew conferences were not until the end of Feb. That said, I gave her my menu and talked to her everyother day reminding her I needed the quote and about the budget. The day of the lunch came and I got the bill-- not even itemized! I told her I need this itemized and why am I being charged for labor!!??
AAAHHHH yes, she charged the PTO $50 labor PLUS our food bill which was $40 over budget! I have since talked to the kitchen manager and the Principal. Both agreed that the PTO should not pay for her time (YYEEAAHHH!!!) and signed the invoice to that effect, and were surprised I didn't recieve an itemized bill because ahe has to do that fro everyone! Do I still have a itemized bill...no. It's been 3-4 weeks, and I really want to resovle this so we can pay the school. (the membership won't approve the bill!)

Next! I am currently breaking in another new receptionist. First of all, they do have two gals in the office with the first one having been ther since August and I would hope by now she would know a few things but seems to be more concerned with what the high school girls think of her outfit and her cell phone than my skate flyers that were lost therefore we had a terrible turn out for our fundraiser. When the issue was addressed, "Oh, I didn't know- excuse me I have a call" She knew. They did go home, the day after the event!

Thank you for letting me vent....can't wait to have this baby and feel back to normal! Two more weeks!!! ;)
