School Construction -Keeping morale high

22 years 1 month ago #63483 by mykidsmom
This is a great time to take those lemons and make a HUGE pitcher of lemonaide! Our school moved into a recycled KMart store this past fall and actual had fun doing it! Many parents were ready and willing to help their child's teacher make sure their room got packed etc. I like the cart idea maybe even a fun sign on the side "English To-go" or "555-MATH" would lift some sprits.
After our move the most often asked question was "where is Mrs. Brown's room?" Is that something your group can help with? Making sure there are some sort of signs in the halls (esp. during conferences!)??
I wish you the best of luck!

Good luck! Our Middle School had two years of renovations and it was just terrible. The kids wore coats in the classrooms while walls were worked on. My son started his middle school experience at the high school because they couldn't get an occupancy certificate from the county and they had split sessions at the high school for the first two weeks. And because of a horrible contractor we're now going through re-renovation! The teachers, though.....Carts sound wonderful. How about temporary signs for the doors like on little hooks so whoever is in there can have her/his name displayed. And don't assume it will be really bad. At our high school that is currently being renovated, the construction is being done with no interaction between the workers and students/teachers and since they're working on building a new wing there is no interference at all. Except for losing a parking lot, it's been great.

Our town will be building or rebuilding every school over the next four years. The middle shcool construction is scheduled to begin this summer and last for two years. During this time many teachers will be without classrooms and have to travel from room to room. We're looking for suggestions from on how to keep teacher morale high while working among the noise, chaos, mess, and, in some cases, without classrooms. We've thought about t-shirts to kick off the school year in the fall. We're also purchasing several carts for the teachers to push their supplies from room to room. If anyone has experienced this before, and has suggestions, we'd appreciate hearing from you. (grades 6-8)
