Reading and Math Incentives??

Our school has a reading program that entitles each student to a day pass to Six Flags Great Adventure. The student must read 600 minutes and document it. Some class reading was allowed towards their minutes. If you have a Six Flags nearby, then contact them and check it out.

I will begin my term as PTO President this fall. I am looking for any type of reading and math incentive programs for our school. Are there any businesses that are willing to help donate to these type of businesses.

I have been active in our PTO for the past couple of years but our PTO has not been big on promoting education especially in the reading and math area. I want to change this if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,
Renee ;)

I move people,

I live about 30 minutes away from the WB-Scr stadium. I have three boys who just love baseball. So we go quite a bit. They are also big hockey fans too.

We are so lucky to have all of these minor league teams here.

take care,

renee

Renee - you are so very welcome - if we didn't have each other where would we be?

By the way, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons are the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. mThis year their season runs April 8 to August 30, their phone # is 717/963-6556. (I just happen to love minor league baseball and get a book each year with all teams schedules and stadium info so that when we travel we stop along the way to catch games - you can't believe how much more fun minors is than majors where the players only care about the $$$$$$!) Hope it works out for you.

My kids mom,

I just heard about the Pizza Hut reading program and have already called in regards to setting up the program for next year. I got the phone number off their website. The program runs from Oct to March. They will be sending us the information in September, but thank you for the heads up too.

I Move People,

I am from the Wilkes-Barre - Scranton area in Pennysylvania. Thank you for your information about the minor league baseball team too. Funny to receive that today but I was our school for a meeting this morning for my son with peanut allergies and his enabler told me that our Minor league team also does the same. Thank you too for the help.

This also gave me the insite to call our American Hockey League team too to see what they do. I also know that some of the players have visited other schools in our area. And our new Arena Football team as well.

thank you all for your input. I have been surfing the net but can't seem to find any math incentive programs. I thought I would try and come up with a new math program myself.

Best wishes too all,

Renee

Don't know where you live - but we're in the 'burbs of Chicago. Our minor league baseball affilliate of the Florida Marlins runs a program with levels of reading to reach each base culminating in reaching home. (free hot dog & soda, t-shirt, parade around the field and ticket to game). They benefit, too, because of course for every kid that goes, an adult goes and spends not only for the ticket but for concessions, also. The t-shirts are sponsored by other sponsors of the baseball team so they are fairly cheap for the team to provide, also. When we were there for the parade for our school in mid-May I heard that our team sponsors 175,000 kids per year so you know they're doing well in the process and that's 175,000 kids that read 800 minutes. If there's a team near you check into it. If you don't know if there's a team near you let me know where you are as I have a book with all minor league baseball teams.
