I'll try and not be to long winded on this one. We live in a county in Western NC where the pop. is about 13,000. We are in a school of K-8 115 students. This year we are faced with more combonation classrooms. Last year was 1-2. This year it is looking like at least K-1, 1-2, 2-3. Our state has End of Grade testing starting in 3rd grade. My thought is I don't care about the numbers. That they county office should provide a teacher for each grade even if there are only 9 students in a classroom. Yes I realize that there are teachers with 28+ students in other schools. We give up a lot in our school because we are so small in numbers. Our PTO is used to just help in BASICS! We can't hardly think of doing some of the great things that you talk of here on this board. Do I seem to selfish in my thoughts? Do you think I should give up and not fight it anymore. Our principal is trying hard to keep from doing more combonation classrooms, but it looks like he will have not choice. I now have citizens with no children in the school calling about the matter. The school board meets July 22nd. I have been going to the meetings for over two years now. Last month I expressed my sincere concern about the combonation classrooms. I even suggested in private if they can't provide a teacher for each grade then close the school down. OH BOY! One thing some little kids would be on the bus for 1 1/2 each way and I understand that isn't fair. My point is let us have a teacher for each grade and the PTO will con't to try and help out with the BASICS. Then again I honestly feel they shouldn't get that from us. They should give us teachers and everything like the other schools in our district get. Any help would be great. If anyone has been throught this please give me some advive. THANKS!
