hey countrybumpkin, you are NOT alone, several of our parents have been crucified as well, and you hit the nail on the head with :

"...it is our goal to ensure the best education for our children, but on the other hand a good caring concerned parent can do that without being voluntarily crucified by the ones they are trying to help.

Now why in the world would I want to negotiate anything with any administration that has done this to any parent and organization.

So I eventually took the easy way out, walked away from the entire ugly mess, and now spend my energy volunteering for other needy organizations.

I hope everything will work out in the long run for that school, its parents, and children- but it will be without my input or help..."

One cannot, and should not, appease ones aggressors. ever. you have to do what is best for yuor children , as our parents too have done. And they too hope the best for the rest of the school and other kids.

Public school is about working together to achieve the ends of the education process, and if admin is adversarial towards parents, and parents dont take a stand as a majority and demand change thru the avenues of change, ie complaints to BOE and or state level, there are no other options but to find a better solution for the kids, on ones own, as you have done.

as footnote, the irony in our situation , about our admin, the adversarial ones among them, is that THEIR kids do not attend public schools, they are enrolled in private. that alone has caused alot of parents to question many things.
no vote of confidence if the ones that run yuor disstrict and school, dont put their kids there.

Anyway, good for you for having done whats best for your kids, and yourself!

Hi All..I'm still here

Goodending-
no it didn't work out, just as "mykidsmom" said things would get worse before it got better, it did and still is getting worse.

Several of the parents did take a stand and as expected they along with their children were targeted.
The parents who had done most of the volunteerism over the years and who were the most vocal have actually removed their kids from the entire school district and placed them into private schools, homeschools, etc.
So far over 10 families, that I know of, have pulled their children out, but I expect there are more doing the same but we wont know for sure til school starts back up.

not just any mom-
You are right about one thing it is our goal to ensure the best education for our children, but on the other hand a good caring concerned parent can do that without being voluntarily crucified by the ones they are trying to help.
Now why in the world would I want to negotiate anything with any administration that has done this to any parent and organization.

So I eventually took the easy way out, walked away from the entire ugly mess, and now spend my energy volunteering for other needy organizations.

I hope everything will work out in the long run for that school, its parents, and children- but it will be without my input or help, as our kids will not be going back next year either.

I will join our new schools PTO, but with more knowledge and cautious optimism.

I know this sounds difficult, but I have been where you are...Take a step back and think about the purpose and goal of any Parent Organization. It is ultimately to nurture and ensure the best education for our children. Leave the past in the past, you can't control that.
Maybe you could go to the administration (with an open mind) and see if they are still willing support a PTO if you have parents who are willing to volunteer. If they are adament about not having a PTO, then ask in what ways would they like you to support the school and still be involoved in creating a positive envrironment. Maybe the administration is aware of something that you are not aware of and are waiting on the right parents to step up. Remember, just because there may not be an organized Parent group doesn't mean that the parents can't volunteer in a way that would be productive and still support the school and it's mission.

good luck and don't get discouraged!

You know, I would still call the state education offices to see what can be done or if what they have done can be fixed! The worst possible answer is "No".

It's hard to hear people that are taken by surprise by a situation that is right under their nose!! You (well I know I must) almost want to thump their forehead and welcome them to Earth!! HA!

I am a survivor of a huge mess that took five years to fix and this is the first year without our school's founder. LOts of changes but so weird to be able to breathe! Stay strong!
