We have a field day also.. get the gym teacher involved. Ask for ideas on fun physical fitness games that the kids would like... we get parents to volunteer to run the stations... halfway through they get a snack. One year we gave go-gurts, last year was frozen iccees. they kids love it and they get a lot of fresh air.

Well, I'm kind of a fan of martial arts. For our Arts Day, a local karate academy comes out and teaches the kids some basic moves. First they do a great demonstration then break the kids up into smaller groups and teach them fun stuff.

Lots of seniors have adopted a 007 theme for their graduating year. Maybe you could have a 007 themed field day? Unless your kids are too young to know what that means.

At my son's last school the gym teacher put on a field day for k-3 students and the 8th graders assisted at each activity.

Whatever you decide to do, I think it's smart to shake things up a bit. It does get boring and change is good. Lots of posters here have field days at their schools so I'm sure you'll get tons of ideas from them. Also, search the message boards for ideas that have already been shared.

I'm not sure what games they play because I didn't help with games last year but the games have been the same forever. My 7 year old informed me that he doesn't want to go to Field Day this year because it's boring and stupid. After the kids play the games (I think there are 6 games), then they eat a snack, play with chalk and run around in the courtyard, and then the PTO treats them to a program in the auditorium. The children are given ribbons for first place, second place, third place and a participant ribbon.

No one wants to step up to make a change so I guess I will. This is my second year as PTO President. I want to have all new games this year and no more chalk. I think we should have different stations set up with jump ropes, ribbon sticks, face painting, bubbles, etc. I want to give all of the children a gold medal for their participation so everyone is a winner. We have 150 new students this year due to school closings, so it is going to be difficult timing the day so that all children can participate. I really want it to be fun but still want to stick to the physical part of the day. It's sort of a day that promotes physical fitness. I think I want to have an obstacle course set up, sack race, football toss, some sort of water game since Field Day is in June. There are so many possibilities that I have a headache!

CrewChief, I think you are correct that having a theme for the day would help with ideas. Thank you so much for the advice.

Ooooo, totally steal, I mean borrow Skyview's Survivor ideas.

Seriously, what are the current activities that the kids are getting bored with?

Some people find that having an overall theme for field day helps to come up with ideas for activities.

Field Day was created by mommytlc
We have an event at the end of every school year called Field Day. Field Day is a day at our school where the students participate in structured activities and receive ribbons for their participation. Our PTO is trying to come up with fresh ideas for this event because the same format and the same games have been played for over 10 years. The children think this event is boring, and we need to breathe new life into it. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
