PTO on the way out...

Our PTO is struggling right now as well. There are 3 people who do all of the work. I'm the PTO President, and the VP and Secretary help all the time. We do all of the work for the entire year, and no one else steps up to help. We send home letters, newsletters, reminders, etc. and still no help. It's sad that parents can't offer to help more often. We even have 150 more students this year than last year. We thought we would have an overflow of volunteers this year, but we were wrong. We are all thinking about quitting, but we keep thinking about the students at our school. We all love helping out, but we just don't feel appreciated this year. Our new principal just doesn't make us feel like we are important to our school.

I think we may be losing our PTO next year. After everything that has happened this year from being VP, to president to nothing! Not even an involved parent. As I've said at our school to other parents and teachers I've done everything but put my name and phone number on the marque in front of the school stating I want to be involved. Noone wants to run for PTO next year so the principal suggested going to this new model like our middle school uses. No board members everyone just helps (yeah right) We have almost 500 students and roughly 8 parents a month at our PTO meetings. The principal will run our meetings, she out right admitted that she isn't sure she likes this idea that she already has enough on her plate. Our principal is new this year and unfortunatly just lost her husband. Our school has been thru one thing after another, I'm hoping to be moved to a new home by the time the next school year gets here but if I'm not I have to deal with all of this for another year. I don't want to be left out, I love having time with the kids, and I think they really enjoy when I am there. I have suggested ptotoday.com so many times and they all roll their eyes and turn a deaf ear. I don't know what to do any more, neither does the principal or the current board members. I'm almost afraid to try to get involved again.
