If you're talking about the lockdown kits, our school district supplies them. It's a big bucket with duct tape, sheets of plastic, first aid supplies, etc. All to be used in case of an emergency situation that requires a lockdown with barrier protection such as a terrorist attack on the area.
never mind my question, i now see that they are for the CLASSROOM, not the students. no, we dont pay for these. each teacher has a portable kit for field trips, and a stationary one in each room paid for by distirct money. i dont see why parent groups should foot the bill for such things , after all, it is probably a state requriement to have these supplies in each room, therefore the state or local funds should pay.
AEDs will soon be a requirement in many states....meaning,,the district has to cough up the money for them , as well as training. we thought about it but didnt buy them for the school.
and we dont have the backpacks either, not even sure what they are.
all staff have first aid training and have the necessary in each classroom as well as in nurses office.
just what is in an emergency backpack? and why would a school need them? young kids cant administer thier own first aid...just curious.
We helped purchase 2 AED's (Automated External Defibrillator) for our school and supported the training of the office staff for their use.
I can see where FirstAid bags would be a great addition to the classroom ... although a lot of schools still have a nurse either in the school or in the district that services the school for first-aid type things. You may just want to check with school admin to get their thoughts ... they may want any injury type stuff funneled through the office so they have a primary care person PLUS they can keep a record of what happened.
I've read a few notes about PTO's supplying classroom emergency backpacks for their schools...
How many of your schools have these? Does your PTO supply them? What's in them? How much did you budget for these?
In today's world I see the need for these and think they are a great idea. I'm going to bring this up when I meet with our principal later this week and would love to hear what others have to say!
