volunteers lack of committment

Setting up a volunteer schedule to far in advance has been disastrous for our parent group, too.

We also have Friday folders. The teachers get the weekly notes in their mailboxes and the teachers have the students fill their own folders. (All classrooms have student mailboxes for the notes.) However, the kindergarten teacher has one parent volunteer come in on Thursday afternoon to fill the kindergarten students' folders.

Maybe your volunteers do not see this activity as fun and helpful to the education of the children. Talk to your principal about the problem and maybe come up with a new system of filling the Friday folders.

Is there a chair for this activity? Maybe the chair could call folks on wenesday and remind them. It's not good but people do forget especially busy moms.

Unfortunately the word is volunteer. When some people volunteer it is a true commitment, while others it is more like I'll be there as long as something better does not come along. At our annual fair, a week before we always have all the posotions filled then the day of the fair, there are openings because people do not show, human nature a guess.

Keep plugging away.

Our PTO has been frustrated with volunteers lack of committment, especially on one particular committee. We have a program called Friday Folders where notices come home once a week. The folders are filled by a committee of volunteers who are set up on a rotating schedule for the year. The flyer goes out at the start of school with ALL the details about times, schedules, contacts, etc. We then make up the schedule and give them to all who volunteered along with procedures, others names in case of need to switch, the necessity to mark their calendars, etc. Seems like all the bases were covered, but then every week we have maybe 2 of the 4 or so people not show! Makes the ones who do show swamped with work. No replacements have been called and no calls to the chairs either! What are we doing wrong??? Does anyone else have problems with volunteers not showing up? Thanks for any insights you can give.
