In desperate need of advise.

Okay...I'm confused here. Were you the president?? If you were how can you just step down?? In our pto the only person who can step in if the president is unable to perform his or her duties is the vicepresident (until the next election). If you were not the president...was there an election held for that position?? You really need to check the by-laws. It could be that you are still the president. I believe that if an elected officer is to be removed from their position it has to be addressed at a general membership meeting and that person has the right to speak on their own behalf. It sounds as if your pto doesn't have very good by-laws or that they are not being follwed. I hope you can do some investigating and let us know more concrete details so that we can help you out:)

Unfortunately everyone is not nice. When I got involded with PTO it was a rumor mill to say the least. The gossip that went on was unbelievable. At first a lot of the talk was about me. The way I handled this was to not listen and get to work saying and reminding people that we were there for the students. The worse thing that can happen is that all of this gets to the kids especially yours, hopefully it has not. If it has, walk away and just do what is best for your child. If your child knows about the talk and it bothers them, then fight and clear your name without trashing anyone else, be the bigger person.

As far as the principal not getting involved, I fined this odd. Our principal sit on the executive board and over sees and has say in everything that goes on in her school.

Good luck.

Just a warning, this could be long. I am a nailtech and one of my clients happened to be the PTO Pres of the school. She asked me to consider her position the next year (present) I said yes even though i had a hectic schedule already. at the 1st meeting, my neighbor volunteered to help out. She ended up overtaking so i stepped out of the way since she had much more time. I was told to push out the Vol. coordinator since she wasnt doing well and apparently didnt want it anywya. so I listened to her and tried to push my way in. I regreted that pushy rudeness before I did that so, well, I am the co-vol. coord. I missed a meeting that was given to me with 2 days notice since i had already had a prior engagment. well, I got a horrible email.... oh if you could have read it. so i called her and let her have a piece of my mind only to find out that she called everyone that evening and trash talked me to all of them and voted me out. She made up untruths and fabrications for all to see her side and all behind my back over the telephone. i got an email that was addressed to everyone including the teachers about my dismissal. i could go on with details but i'll spare you. My friend found this site and told me i should ask you all for advise. Are there no code of ethics. can she run my name, which is everything in my business, into the dirt this way. shouldnt i have a say. the principal can t do anything since the pto is not actually part of the school. please email me personally if you have any suggestions for me. ANY. thank you for listening to me rant and rave.
