It has been 9 years since I have lived in the Lexington, Concord, Bedford area but if you can plan your field trip on April 19th and hit Lexington early to see them refire that shot heard around the world, then on to the North Bridge in Concord to see the re-enactment of the battle there. Also see the Buttrick House on that site in which the Patriots hid guns and muntions ect.. for the battle. They also have a museum there to help explain it all along with costumes of the era. The gardens would be a nice place for lunch with enough time to make it back to school. What an amazing day that would be! They also have a road running on the back side of Hanscom Air Station in which Paul Revere road is now famous ride along with a museum with artifacts that Revere made as a silversmith way back when.

We went to Hancock Shaker Village and it was
great. Also there is Mass MOCA and the Williams Art Institute if art is more appealing. Just a few thoughts. Good Luck

Sturbridge village wasn't receptive to a school group? Good grief - that's sort of their reason for being, isn't it?

Some suggestions: Concord (Walden Pond, various author houses, the "rude bridge that arched the flood" where the "shot heard round the world" was fired, etc) Boston (Freedom Trail, the Aquarium, Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts, Faneuil Hall, the Old State House) Worchester (Higgins Armory) (can you tell I'm a history nut!) Hartford (Mark Twain House, Harriet Beecher Stowe House) Mystic/Stonington CT (Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, Mashantucket Pequot Museum. I haven't been there but I've heard it's interesting)

Hope that helps. Good luck,

Marion

My daughter's elementary school is located in central Massachusetts. Our team of 4th
grade teachers are having a tough time coming up with ideas for the annual spring field trip.

In previous years, the 4th grade traditionally went to Sturbridge Village. It is not too far & the experience blended nicely with the curriculum the students were studying. However, last year, the employees were not receptive to a school group. The teachers & chaperones did not have a very positive experience. So, this year the teachers are hoping to come up with a new trip for the 4th graders.

I would appreciate any ideas you may have. The students can travel into Boston, Providence, the Worcester area to give you some idea of location.

Thanks so much for your help!
