One of the things we'll do this coming year, because of the inspiration of these boards, is give our Principal and VP Bobcat Bucks to hand out for the children that get our Bobcat notes (good writeups from teachers about their children). The Bucks will be useable at our school spirit store...I'm sure it will be a big hit!!!!

This was out 1st year with our school store. It was run by 2 PTO members. We were opened once a week, about 45 mins. in the morning before school started & lunch time. The members took turns manning it. The kids loved it & we did pretty well for our 1st year.

Our school store is run by our Family Literacy Committee. It is open 2 days a month at lunchtime. I can't rmember right now if the PTO initially funded it or if the FLC got either the school Administration or a grant to buy the supplies to get it started. After that, the PTO pays for keeping the stock updated. The cost is built into the FLC budget.

Actually, they do something I think is unique and quite innovative (can you tell I am proud of the FLC!). Kids don't pay any money to purchase things from the school store. Instead, they earn points by completing a monthly reading log and reading a minimum of 400 minutes a month (which is 100 mins a week which is 20 mins a day only 5 days a week). If a student does it 1 month they get a certain number of points. The more months in a row they meet the goal, the more points they earn. The FLC bought some nice T-shirts ("I read all year and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt") for all the kids that completed their reading calendars all year long.

This summer, for the first time, there is going to be summer reading calendars with extra bonus points awarded in September.

We have our school store open at main events - like back to school night, open house, holiday program, etc. But we send flyers home with a list of all items available for sale. Parents can send this back to the office at any time throughout the year and the orders are filled by the chairperson of our school store committee. They send the order form home about once a month at the beginning of the school year, then every other month towards the end of the school year. Plus we have the order form on our website for parents to print whenever they'd like.

We get all our school spirit stuff from an awesome company on line. it's www.wadayaneed.com I am not affiliated with this company in any way - but we have had amazing results from them and they really work with us and our budget and deliver a quality product at the best price I could find on the internet. Just thought I would share.

Our Spirit Store is one of our committees and is opened every Friday from 8:30 to 9. Two ladies do it by starting with a budget and ordering small items to sell. Then the kids get to come and buy with their money....works great...easy do...d
