I've been on this message board for over 6 years. Don't have time to use any others! Judging from what you all have described, I would not like the PM (private messaging?) feature here. Personally, I think that would change the flavor of the discussion. This site is so helpful for the casual browser, the serious lurker, and the really crazy ones like me. It's got a level of "professional content" that I'm afraid could be compromised by the PM feature. To me, the "social" section was added to allow for more casual chatter. If there's conversation that's too sensitive for this open forum, then it's probably not relevant to the mission of this site anyway. And if you're sharing really good content, then let us all in on the scoop.

I use the Today's active topics every time I log on. I like seeing the # of posts and member number for each user. I like the search feature, too. But the white background is too bright for my tired eyes. I prefer the old beige/yellow background.

I go to other moms boards and from them I like the PM ing thing sometimes you don't want the entire board to know all the juicy details. So if someone had specific info to help you out they could pm you and your not giving out your email addy.
Having profiles would be nice even just basic ones names, how long we have been doing PTO, what got us started that kind of thing, how many kids maybe. I like the search feature I use it a lot to look up specific info on a topic thats been discussed previously.
Maybe having a more specific social board so some of us could get to know each other better.
I am NOT a blinkie/slogan fan. But I am sure all of ours would say "Proud to be an PTO Officer" :cool:

After clicking "today's active topics", you'll see two links for each active topic.

The link on the left is the "category" -- clicking that will bring up the whole category.

The link on the right is the single "thread" name -- clicking on that will bring you right to the single discussion.

Do you know what software or script that is?

It was custom written for the 2 Peas website. They have 13,000 to 20,000 message board posts a day. They are definitely an active community!!


Do you already have some software in mind?

V Bulletin has many nice features.

Invision power board has a monthly fee but has nice features and is easy to administer. (I used to be an admin on the site I linked to.)

The "getting logged out" issue is a bug in this now 8-year-old software running this board. That'll be fixed in upgrade, no matter what we do.

We don't have ahot topic board -- do you mean the "today's active topics" button?
