information please;136892 wrote: I am looking for any information on chnging from a PTO to a PTA?

There is a group at my school who came from another school that was PTA and they are starting to discuss changing.
I see on these boards lots of info on changing from PTA to PTO, but has anyone changed from a PTO to a PTA?

Our PTO seems a little stale, the same few people do all the work.

Just wondering

I am a PTA VP and considering a move to PTO. I agree with all that PTO or PTA won't change the energy in your group. Why does the group want to switch to PTA? What is their motivation?

I agree with OntheGoPTO. You need to work on energizing your group. To reach more parents or teachers, you need a plan. Mine was to have the ability to communicate with all the parents better. To do this, I needed to increase membership. To increase membership, I needed to get membership forms in the hands of parents. To get membership forms in the hands of parents, I attended end of the year events, before the beginning of the year events, beginning of the year events and had the school included membership forms with what went home to students. This allowed me to gather increase membership 5-6X. Then from this larger pool pf people naturallly it was easier to get more volunteers, just by having more people I could ask. (Warning: be prepared for a good response. communications with a very large group of people is a lot of work and cost a little more money)

I have no experience with PTA, only PTO (fortunately). I'm curious - why change at your school? In my opinion, if the change is being considered because your "PTO seems a little stale" and "the same few people do all the work" I would focus more on energizing the group you already have and recruiting more volunteers before I would waste valuable time going through a changeover.
