Hi Renee -

You've got your facts right (and your intentions are right on, too!).

There is currently no formal structure for PTOs at the stae and national level. Our magazine, Web site and PTO Shows are national resources that many PTOs (and PTAs) utilize, but it's not a formal membership organization of any sort.

There will be even more sophisticated services available to PTOs in the coming months. These services should be quite helpful to you, as you look to "professionalize" (or get things "buttoned up") at your school.

We are a PTO. Please help me under stand this a bit more clearly.

All PTA's must pay dues on a state and national level? Correct!?!

PTO's do not have dues that they have to pay? Any school can form a PTO? Is there anything in regards to PTO's on a state or national level?

Our school have been using the "PTO" name for many years now (not sure how many/over 10), but last year we actually adopted by-laws in which to follow. The records were not well kept in the past. I'm hoping to change all of this for the future.

Our PTO has been so disorganized for so many years among other things. We don't really have an executive board thats meets monthly. I hope to change this.

I belong to another non profit group that runs quite efficently so I am planning to try to run our PTO more effectively for everyone.

Thank you for all of your help.

Renee
