If you do a message board search for "grants" you'll find all sorts of the info you are looking for. How to apply, who hands them out, etc. Good luck with them! There are lots out there...

Hi All- We are working on our transition for our new PTO board. We have someone who has agreed to help us write grants in the coming school year. Have you applied for any grants? Which ones were you successful receiving funds from? Any information on corporations that have grant opportunities that may be applicable to PTOs would be appreciated. As a side note, we will reach our two year anniversary of being a 501c(3) organization in June 2007. I believe this will open up a few more opportunities for us to try for grants.
