Single Family Fundraisor during Carnival?

16 years 2 months ago #141539 by Kriswm
I am a relatively new PTO officer and our organization sponsers a carnival each spring to raise funds for school equipment. At our carnival we have games, a prize room, food concessions, a basket auction and a bike raffle.

We were approached today by a parent who wants to use the carnival to raise funds for a family who lost the father suddenly over the weekend. She asked us to have a seperate basket auction, or raffle or give the proceeds of the food to this family.

We have never done anything like this for any other family that has experienced a loss or has medical issues in the past. Does anyone who has had a similar situation in the past have any suggestions on how to handle this request?

Are we setting a bad precident if we allow her to have a seperate auction or raffle or food booth for the family? We don't want to insult families we didn't do this for in the past or open the door to be flooded with requests next year.

And what about liability and other legal concerns?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
