Digital Yearbooks

Digital yearbooks are cool for a few reasons: they're cheap, they're interactive and they can be used as a fundraiser.

Obviously producing a DVD or CD yearbook is cheaper than producing a printed yearbook. All you have to do is buy the software or software license and then burn copies of your yearbooks for all of your students/faculty.

Printed yearbooks will always have a place for some people, but personally I think that today's students are more interested in something that they can interact with. Digital yearbooks are a multimedia experience; most of them allow for a combination of text, images and music that can be viewed in a non-linear way. Kids want to be entertained and I think that digital yearbooks do a better job of entertaining them than printed yearbooks.

As a fundraiser, digital yearbooks have huge potential. Consider that by purchasing a $1 CD or DVD and selling it for $20, you'll be making $19 on the sale of each yearbook!

The only digital yearbook I've tried is Yearbook Alive , which is great. I'm sure there are others out there, but this one is pretty easy to use, so I keep coming back to it.

Digital Yearbooks are cool. A couple of my teachers do this. The problem that we have run into is that the DVD's get broken. How often do youreplace them? We do have a few families that do not have a way to view them. The kids definitely like the paper yearbooks better.

My feelings are a digital dvd may be cool but kids love to look at books.
Kids love to sign each others yearbooks at the end of the year-it is a tradition we all know very well. You can't get too many signatures on a dvd cover. I have had books put together by Lifetouch and they will lead you right through it, great results. As President you should be able to get a couple parents together to work on the book with a small group of kids. The best upside is the kids involved really learn a lot and they even teach us a thing or two along the way.

I am a brand new PTO pres, and was offered the job 2 days before school was out! YIKES! I've searched this site and found people talking about printed yearbooks, but has anyone ever done a DVD Yearbook? I am interested in what programs you used or if you had a company do it for you? Pretty much how you went about doing it?
