various events our District has run include Dinner Dance, Casino Night (where parents win tickets not money to be used to bid on raffles), Family Fun night (paying for a cultural arts event out of PTA funds and charging families a fee to attend, plus raffling free things like lunch with your teacher, front row tickets to graduation, etc in a live auction), an Art Auction.
Try salsa fundraising, we did it last year to great success. we have people bugging us as to when we are doing it again. We are now in the planning stages to do it again. it's healthy and different and they offer 20 yummy varieties.

. The children do an in-class art project. It is then printed on stationery cards. You can order online, so it is really easy to send the information to family members that do not live in the area. 40% of the sales are returned to the school.
greenraising offers alternative earth friendly recycled and organic products. you can have a catalog drive or just a web drive and items can be shipped directly to the customers. we used this to raise money for our school garden and had great success.
This fundraiser may only work in the country, but it worked well. Our PTO President sold tickets for a "cow plop". The tickets were $10.00 each or 3 for $25.00. This ticket bought you a 4 x 4 spot. At the Octoberfest, they brought in a cow to the marked field. When the cow did his business we had a winner. The prize was $1,000. Some of the proceeds were shared with the teachers and the student that sold the winning ticket. Very little overhead. We did well and hope you do too.
