Help- need guidance on Scrip security!

I run a scrip program at a private school. Our program has been around awhile so we are able to have inventory on-hand for orders. Our inventory is in boxes and stored in a fireproof safe in a small office. THe boxes are taken out of the safe each morning by me and volunteer sellers sell each morning for 30 minutes. We open about 5-10 minutes before the bell rings. For those who cannot come in the morning, we have "family scrip envelopes." They are plastic envelopes with a string tie. The parent can prepare their order on an order form with payment and have their child submit it to the office in the morning. The sellers fill the order and it is locked in the safe, or left with the secretary. Near the end of the school day, the student is summoned to the scrip office to pick up the order and sign for it, and reminded to put in their backpack or homework folder.

For schools that cannot keep inventory, but order scrip when families order it, you can summon the student later in the week when the order arrives to sign for the scrip. Great Lakes Scrip does allow families to order on-line with Presto pay and the scrip person has to release the order. Since we keep inventory on hand, we have not utilized this service.

Tough question! We are thinking of starting a scrip program also and are trying to figure this out. The problem is that parents need to be able to pick them up on their schedules, so someone needs to have access to them at the school. Is there maybe someone in the office who wouldn't mind having a lock box in their desk? Or maybe you could purchase a locking file cabinet (which we have recently done) the issue with this is more than one person has to have the key. Maybe a log book to check them in when they arrive and out when they are picked up?

Also, don't they have the option of purchasing online and having them sent directly to the home?

I will be watching this to see if you get any more response, I would love to see the answers myself. Good Luck!

We are starting a Scrip program and are fairly set up on most procedural issues, but we are unsure and in disagreement about some security issues, namely storage. I know this could be a touchy topic, but do you store the scrip on-site or off-site? How did you find a spot to store it? Any other security procedure tips are appreciated as well. I'm very concerned about security with this program, as we have heard of scrip thefts at other schools.
