I LOVE this idea!
I checked out the website and I found out our state governor endorsed this last year, so I'm pitching it to my group this year.

Thanks!

While planning the book drive, consider checking with the Children's hospital in the area, for the area that has many terminally ill residents in and out frequently. They probably need some gently used books donated to the children. Here in our child. hospital the hospital lets the children take home a favorite book and this depletes the supply frequently. We donated quite a bit of the self reading level books from advanced 2nd grade on up to young adult.

The student council in our elem. school collected our gently used books and took them down to the donation center of the hospital and since they were considered leaders in the school, they were given a tour of this unique area of the hospital. This made quite an impression of these youngsters.

We will be doing something similar to this in November. Our school does the Scholastic Book Fair the first week of November and then the second week of November it's National children's book week. We are planning on tying to two together.
Hopefully, we will have activities and contests going on those two weeks. Here are some of our ideas, and we welcome more:
1. the class with the most library cards at our town library will get something.
2. NH Public TV will come in to do a presentation.
3. Games night
4. book drive
5. reading drive

We haven't sat down to plan this yet, so please share any ideas you might have.

I have just recently found out about Television Free Week in September. The week of the 24th through the 29th. I am wondering if anyone has any other info on it such as things to get the kids involved. There was a website listed as www.tvfa.org, but nothing comes up. Any help would be appreciated, want to get somthing going soon, school is right around the corner. Thanks so much.
