Silent Auction Item Description

19 years 3 months ago #85785 by Holly Eighmy
I'm with you KLH... I'm not wanting to put the actual gc or voucher out on display. I'd like to keep them in a secure place to be distributed at the time of payment. But I want something that will catch the adults' eye and make them want to check it out! We are in Henderson, Nevada (suburb of Las Vegas) and I have been able to secure a few show tickets that are pricey and would not feel comfortable having those vouchers just out on display.

we simply just have a paper listing, the item, value and who it was donated by in front of the gift certificate--we usually hang the gc to the wall--nothing fancy. But if you have a fabulous item i would take alittle time to make sure it gets noticed!

Usually the item speaks for itself and the bid sheet lists the basics (item, description, value). The most common format is to have the item sitting there (or posted on the wall) and the bid sheet in front of it. I don't think we would invest the time to make a detailed flyer for EACH item.

We do that only for selected items that need more attention or explanation. For instance, last year we ended up with several low value restaurant coupons for free appetizeers, buy-one-get-one free, dinners with $5-$10 value, etc.

We put a collection of these together to represent a "dine-around" valued at over $100. (Actually we did two.) Anyway, we did design a special flyer to explain that item.

I am the Auction Chair this year. We are having our auction in March. Last year we made up layouts for all the silent gift certificate type items. This was very time consuming. Lots of clipart pasted, etc. We hang all the gift certificate type items up on the wall rather than placing them on the table.

This year I would like to simplify by typing up all the info on stationary. (for example, I found scrapbook paper that is outlined by a picture frame.) All the displays will be on the same paper but will have the different descriptions.

Comments have been made that we need to make displays that catch the eye. What do you think?
How do you display your gift certificates?

Thanks
