First Ever Celebrate Your Heritage Night

For our international night we recruit exchange students from our local college and high school. They are fantastic. We break families up into groups and they travel to different countries (classrooms). The speaker will do a little presentation, maybe quick craft, song or dance. They also enjoy answering questions. Our teachers prepare light ethnic finger foods that are placed in corresponding classrooms. This is a big success. A great, free family night out. However, I strongly urge you to require pre-registration. That way it's much more organized.

How did the Heritage Night go? I just spoke with our principal on this subject for in school activities. I love the idea of adding an afterschool/evening event. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Next month we will be having our 2nd annual International Day. Families sign up for a table representing their heritage. This is a great way for families to get involved especially for those who have just come to this country. Each family brings food, music, pictures and literature from their country. We had it on a Sunday afternoon and it was great! The kids and parents were impressed by all the different ethnic groups represented and I think it helped people get to know each other.

Hi Everyone.. I just stumbled upon these message boards today and you can bet they've given me a TON of information.. I think this is my new favorite hang out.. LOL.. ANYWAY.. my school is having it's first ever Celebrate your Heritage Night and I'm looking for some ideas to help me plan it. So far we've established that we will have representation from each of the continents. A sampling of food will be offered, as will music, dress, photos and perhaps the children will be given an opportunity to make a related craft. Has anyone.. <dumb question HERE i'm sure> EVER done this before and if so am I on the right track and what should I know before I get knee deep in this. ANY help would be most appreciated! We've been having a great year so far, I want this to run as smoothly and as favorably as possible!
Thanks in Advance!
