I'm a "first-timer". I volunteered to be the new President for the next two years eventhough my 6 yr old is very excited, I'm very nervous. I'm trying to figure out how to pull off being a single mom, working a full-time job, going back to school my self.
"I"m so Green at this"
I loved reading everyone's messages, I still feel very "green" but I see so many of you in the same situation and it's comforting to see that
I'm not alone
PTSOparent if you could please email me your list and anyone one else who wouldn't mind sharing their information with me to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I would love the helpful hints too! Plus I would love to see a copy of your donation letter (realize it gets changed to suit the specific company you are contacting).

We do get a good response from local companies - but the majority of our auction items are from national companies. I just felt like our local businesses were being saturated with requests. Many our school districts our in deep trouble.

I have been very pleased with the response we have gotten from the national businesses. I always make a phone call to follow up the letter and many times end up getting a donation when I might not have.

We also send out thank you letters as well as post their donation on our website and monthly newsletters. I am also displaying their donations in our parent's room to further bring about acknowledgement of their contribution.

I agree with using every donation - no matter how small. We fill goodie bags for prizes, fill gift baskets for "adopted families", etc. Everything gets put to a use!

Good luck to everyone else searching for donations - it sure is worth it!

Lisa

I know by my experience and by looking at the lists, you have the best luck by contacting locally. We had over 200 donors last year and all but a handful were local. Ask your parents to ask their employers or people they do business with to ask for donations, but coordinate it well. Nothing will give you a bad repuation faster than multiple people hitting up the same businesses. Sometimes it helps to give the business an idea of what you would like.

We have three donors give cookies for the cookie walk. I now infamous pickle walk came about because the local pickle plant donated pickles. We take anything donated and find a use. Small items become bingo prizes.

Asking for donations means building a relationship. I have asked the same places for about 6 years now. I NEVER neglect to say thank-you while I am there and let them know I appreciate their support.
