terrorist attacks

I am a PTO president at an elementary school in a small town in Oklahoma. Although we were not directly affected by the attacks across the country,we still feel horribly for the people who have lost loved ones. Naturally, it brings back vivid memories of the Oklahoma City bombing. I would like to try to come up with a fundraiser to benefit the Red Cross for the families who have been affected. Would it be inappropriate to try to do this through P.T.O.? I have no doubt that my core group of parents would be happy to help out, but I don't want to offend anyone who isn't normally involved with P.T.O. Let me know your opinions, please.

Thanks,

Kim
