We recently completed a jog-a-thon with 600+ kids and we gave them the option of collecting flat donations or pledges by lap. We marked laps by snapping a rubberband around their wrists as they passed their starting corner. The kids are very proud of their lap count #s. As far as pledges go, it was up to the students/families to collect their donations, whether flat or per-lap. We didnt' even want the pledge sheets back. As said before, no one wanted to follow-up on pledges though I think that's how some of the professional walk-a-thon fundraising companies do it.
