i have volunteered in my school for over 10years. I love to help out but am not sure nor want to committ to something i dont think i would be prepared for. i love what i do and would love to do more especially that our vice president of fundraising has left the school, would it be possible there can have 2 president for fundraising so it can be more easier? Also do they get paid at end of the year for this position? i am new at this so any help would be appreciated. thank u

We have a huge gala/auction every year and the chairman this year said the same thing...said it was so much work it ought to be a paid position. NOw, she has worked much harder than any chairman and will probably raise much more than anyone has ever raised, but I don't think that's something we'll be doing any time soon. Problem is, she has worked SO hard this year, I'm afraid no one will want to follow in her footsteps!

I continually have a parent insist that we should be paid, that she would never do it otherwise. I really don't agree. Volunteering your time is the whole point. BUT, with the rising cost of gas  , money for that would be nice!! Does anyone allow for that? During our fall fundraiser there is ALOT of running and I have considered allowing gas expense for the volunteers who do the running. Of course, they would have to document and have receipts. Any experience with that?

I agree with the Co President situation. Of course I would love to get paid for doing something I love doing so if the job is open let me know where to apply. LOL
Worse case scenario your members or whoever decides your elections may need to appoint you or someone else as a temp Pres until someone else steps in. If you are willing to stay in your position then by all means ask for an amendment to the By Laws before the elections. Definitely send a memo letting people know what can happen if no one steps up. Then again the VP acts in place of the Pres so that may have to be your answer temp at least.

I would stay away from paying volunteers. Do you really want to have to deal with paying someone and handling payroll deductions, etc?
Do you have Co-Presidents? That worked well for our parent group a couple of years back. It's a lot of work for one person. When they have a buddy helping them in the Presidents role, it's much easier to deal with. Good luck!

I agree with ScottMom. Besides I would not want someone who didn't want to do it but now does because there is money to be had.

In most cases if no one steps up to replace the president when their term is up then the president may stay in that position.

If no one steps up and you are willing to be prez again then I suggest you ammend your bylaws to reflect what I noted above aboutstaying in the board position again if no one steps up
