Are you tax-exempt???

There are different levels of taxation. The yearbooks would involve sales tax which is a state issue. But often you cannot get that exemption unless you are already set up as a formal non-profit charitable organization with the IRS.

It is involved. There is a few pages of paper work. Just do it. The paperwork is all right here Application for Recognition of Exemption Take a look at it and start compiling your information. Do to more stringent accounting procedures, many schools are having to adjust their purchasing practices.

Is your PTO tax exempt? Have you filled out the paper work? Was it as involved as everyone says it is?
Our school district will not send in a form to the yearbook company to save us on taxes. I would like to be able to save lots of money each year by being tax exempt.
Any thoughts?
