This is something that needs to be addressed by the group's President.

One idea is to put it on her. For example, lets say word gets back to the President that the V.P. is complaining about not doing enough Enrichment programs. The President should make this come up (without specifics) at the next meeting and possibly request that the V.P. become the new Enrichment committee chair, with monthly reports.

Something like that.

Isn't it amazing when folks exert so much energy to be negative about such a uniquely good effort? I mean what can be better than having the oppportunity to influence your children's education in such a real way. There have been some very good exchanges on this board about how to approach these types of folks and honestly the one that stuck with me that I think is a very good approach...is to perhaps sit down with the person involved and say something like this:

SusieSad--I'm getting the sense that you're not happy with the way the group is going and since I know your intent is to make things great this year I want to talk about this with you so we can present a united front in our programs.

Let her discuss whatever is on her chest and maybe just venting it will make things better. I also wouldn't argue. If there is something discussed in meetings that the group as a whole has agreed with and she brings it up at a later time in an arguementative way--point out "this item was discussed and voted last Tuesday when you were here. We're in the execution phase at this point." Make sure you keep copious notes for your minutes and then rock on. Don't be afraid to put the monkey back onto her back as well. If she wants to do a spelling bee for instance, ask her to work the research aspect and present to the board or the PTO at the following meeting for vote.

Stay as objective and removed as you can and go into "super pres mode" so that it is as unemotional as it can be from your side. It's hard I know...but that's the only way you can survive spirit suckers.

We have a vice president that is soooo negative and just makes everything
not very joyable, She acts like she is never involved in any decision making when she is present at every meeting. When someone gets upset she acts like she has had nothing to do with it... I get soooo tired of arguing with her..
Anyone out there have any good advice before I blow...
