We are about to submit our 501(c)3 application for our new PTO. I was thrilled to hear one was approved in just weeks....but that seems incredibly fast! Can someone tell me what the average turn around time on these apps is? If we submit mid November, it is reasonable to hope we will hear by March? (assuming there is no problem with our application)?

We had been putting it off for months, waiting for CyberAssistant, but now that there is no release date on the horizon, and the lack of exemption was preventing us from applying for some grants, we decided to go for it. I had thought they would have a big rush of apps from people who were in a similar situation, but maybe not. I have to do two more filings over the next couple of months, so we'll see what happens.
I've been told a lot of organizations have put off filing for 501(c)(3) status while waiting for the new Cyber Assistant method to debut. I wonder if the decline has bee significant enough to affect their backlog and give the IRS time to work through it.
I am so excited--we recently sent in an application for tax exemption to the IRS, which they confirmed they received on 8/25. We got a letter today, dated 9/2, approving our application. They turned it around in ONE WEEK!!!!
