What to do??

I found out that to have quarum we need to have our teacher reps in place before our first meeting, this shouldn't be an issue. For us quarum is four board members not including the Principal (who is a board member). Our by laws also state that eventhough we need to fill 2 offices the VP can assume the office of Treasurer or Secretary. That helps the search! K and I are hoping we can recrute a new parent that has shown interest in joining. Would it be approperate to send her a "welcome, we were told you have an interest/ love to meet you" card?

We too have an opening on our exec board, and we are actively looking for a replacement. At this point in the summer, my personal feelings are this: anyone who volunteers makes the perfect officer. I won't overlook the importance of bylaws, but ours speaks only to filling a vacancy in President. For the other positions, seek out anyone who wants the job. If people gripe, then they should have volunteered in May when you had your elections. If they don't like the idea of the 2 elected officers hand-selecting the rest of the board, then "they" should have welcomed the idea of a nominating committee so all your positions would be filled in May. Good luck!

We have a few units in the same position. How many elected positions do you need to fill according to your bylaws? I would certainly start making phone calls to try and fill those. What would an executive board quorum be? I am sure that if you found someone for the posts, they would be approved or even voted on at your next meeting. It would be nice to have them in place so you can plan for things over the summer. I would certainly have something at registration. Let us know how it goes. I am looking into the "appropriateness" of what to do in the same situation. I will let you know if I fall over something useful. Best Wishes!

I am starting the school year with only a Prez (myself), VP and the Principal (we have 2 teacher reps that will begin in the fall).
Right now I am looking at the fact in our by laws we need 4 of our officers present to even have a offical meeting! I could make the former Treasurer keep her post until we elect a new person but in our last conversation ....wait I can't PRINT her last words to me! I was the secretary.
Here is my question, how far in advance can i 'advertise' for these positions? Would it be approprete to have a sign up at the school where parents come to register their children? I have an ext. at school and have the Principal's backing (THAT HELPS!). I know many of you have nomination committees ( mentioned this idea and it wasn't pretty)
Our by laws only mention that our annual election will be in May with nominations in April, no help there.
I was really hoping to put a outline of a budget together this summer along with a few choices for fundraisers (we are limited to 4 a year). Just want to get the ball rolling and be a little more organized than my fore fathers.
Last year we didn't have a budget set until late October and by law changes took till November to iron out setting back everything because the membership wouldn't discuss anything until the changes were made. I just don't want this to happen again!
