I believe if a newspaper came and wanted to put YOUR photo (adult) into the paper, they would need your permission (in most cases). Its the same for kids and any publiscation, paper or web.

You open yourself up to all kinds of potential liablities if you use/publish photos of kids without permission of the parent/guardian.
Many shcools use absolutely NO pictures, and just steer clear of the entire matter becuase it is so time consuming to make sure all the faces are 'permissioned'.
You have to make sure the time involved in sorting pictures is really worth the 'benefit'.

At the beginning of the year, there is a letter that asks permission to use the student's picture, artwork etc for different uses (ie website, yearbook, etc). I would ask administration if it would be okay to send a letter asking permission. I agree with that parent, its better to be safe than sorry. It doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck!

Life is crazy as it is, that's why I don't watch soap operas!! <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

Our school sends home a sheet for parents to sign to allow their kids image and/or art/work be publicized in the newsletter or media sources that might come to the school. I do our newsletter, but I don't have that list, so I just use photos of kids that I know for certain have no objections. Or any photo that is given to me by the principal

At our last meeting the subject of sending classroom pictures for our newsletter through email was discussed. One member said that a waiver was needed from parents in order to send pics this way. Has anyone else heard of this, and how do schools handle this?
