2 hour power? So this must be a knock off of Three4Me which is a reputable and well established initiative.

Key benefits of '2 hour power'
*a dramatic drop in hours volunteered (sarcasm)

Three4ME has worked great for over 20some thousands schools, let the results speak for themselves.

Think you're viewing it a bit wrong.

We have a PTO Today pledge program launching in next couple of weeks. Look to www.ptotoday.com/2hourpower shortly.

Idea is to get the many parents who do nothing now to do just a little. Of anything.

That small bit of help is powerful in its own right. And it's very often a great entry point to even more volunteering. It's a very un-scary first step (as opposed to, say, "serve on the Fair committee").

Really works great.

It would seem to me that this idea might work for ongoing programs that need volunteers like playground monitoring, etc. I am not sure how you implement it for an event that is only annual. Am I viewing the idea wrong?

We were afraid that people who had never volunteered would find three hours to be a lot (hard to imagine when I've already put in about 30 hours!) so we decided to go with a one hour pledge and that has already gotten us a lot more volunteers than we had last year.

Our PTSO used a similar version of this program at our school for the very first time last school year and it was a huge success! We will definitely be using it again for years to come.

We had so many volunteers this past school year because of this program. It was great to be able to see how many hours were actually given at our school. We know it was many more than was actually documented because some people did not want to write it down all of the time and because many board members, myself included, are there so much that we forgot sometimes to keep track of it.

We placed a sign in/out book for the program right next to the visitor sign in sheet in the office and it worked great.

The school sponsored a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast during Volunteer Week for all of the volunteers and all were recognized with certificates of appreciation. The school has always handled the appreciation event because the PTSO is our volunteer organization and we would have to do all of the work for it as well. Our Principal and Assistant Principal take care of this each year.

I hope this helps. I would highly recommend doing this program or something like it!
