One more book to read: Queen Bee Moms and Kingpin Dads by the same author I believe. This book is targeted to adult interactions although the behavior is not always reflective of our age!! ;)

Related books, also good for our tweens to read, is: Odd Girl Out

and for the parents, : Mean Girls all Grown Up

seems the movie mean girls was filmed 'on site' at a new jersey high school, and not in hollywood.

Right now I am reading a book called Queen Bees and Wannabees which was the basis of the movie Mean Girls. I am reading it so that I can help my 12 year old daughter navigate the social strata of middle school. It would seem that what you are experiencing first hand are women whose mentality has never progressed further than middle/high school.

I would use these types of experiences as a test of your resolve. If you chose to get back into an executive position, then these are the petty/mean/awful/spiteful/all too common kinds of crap that you will need to negotiate. Learn from it.

I agree with all posts above... volunteer in the classroom, library etc. Align yourself with teachers. Do your best to cultivate friendships with like minded people like yourself. When you're down, post an e-mail here and all of us will answer you.

Oh and tell your husband the vows you made said 'for better or worse', so he needs to just smile and deal.

I'm just going to add "ditto" to what all the others have said. Go to your teacher(s) and let them know you want to help - be it a room mom, library helper or just copying for them. You'll love helping them, your kids will see you there on a regular basis, and the teachers will LOVE you too!

Good luck.
