What do you do to get more parents involved?

some history....I am on the PTO as my daughter's school. This year was my first year as my daughter was a first grader. Our school previously held all kindergarten classes in a separate building.

At the beginning of the year, I didn't really feel like our PTO welcomed new parents being there. We didn't seem to have a budget, but the board members new exactly where the money was going to go. We did get a treasurer's report that told where the money went.

We introduced ourselves, but the officers made no effort to get to know us(first time parents). I had no idea how to contact our president when I had a question. I just had to wait another month till the next meeting.

As the year went on, us first time parents pushed our way through and even ran a couple new fundraisers for our school.

Anyway, the whole point of this long story was that next year we are getting new first grade parents and the kindergarten is moving into our building too. So we have 2 grades of students coming in and hopefully some new parents.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to introduce the PTO to them and let them know what we do. Our president is gone and our new one is a bit more friendly. So I am just looking for suggestions to the same old question.
